Cruise line donates a million dollars to Sitka

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Norwegian Cruise Lines has donated one million dollars to the City and Borough of Sitka to help mitigate the economic impact from the ongoing cruise ship suspension.

Mayor Steve Eisenbeisz told the Assembly that the donation comes with no strings attached and no quid pro quo.  He added that the distribution of donation is left entirely to the city and borough.

City Manager  John Leach said he received a telephone call from company officials stating they wanted to show their gratitude to Sitka as a destination.

The donation was accepted on a 4 to 1 vote.
