Cruise company calls on Governor and Juneau Mayor to help convince travelers to come to Alaska

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - UnCruise Adventures, one of the small cruise ship companies that will be plying Alaska waters this season, hosted a press conference Monday to tout the message that Alaska is open for business and that its safe to travel here.

The company enlisted the help of Governor Mike Dunleavy.   "Alaska is open for business.  As a matter outfits such as Wallet Hub and others have rated Alaska as the safest states in the country.  I repeat, the safest state in the country."

The governor added that their management of the virus and especially their vaccine rollout is the envy of many states.  "And quite frankly we may be the safest locale in the word at this stage of the game," he said.

Juneau Mayor Beth Weldon was also called upon to support the message.  "Through a variety of methods, including a mask mandate we are down to level one which is yellow so we're a yellow city in the state so Alaska is safe and Juneau is very safe."

UnCruise CEO Dan Blanchard said their voyages will be vaccinated cruises and will include crew members and guests...
Blanchard said that he believes he would be negligent to his crew if he hadn't made this decision.
