Crime down 12% in Juneau

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau's crime rate for the year is down according to preliminary figures.

Chief Ed Mercer made that disclosure on Action Line Thursday.

"We're seeing a 12 percent reduction in both Part 1 and Part 2 crimes."   Robbery, aggravated assault, burglaries, and thefts are among Part 1 crimes.  Fraud, simple aggravated assault, forgeries, and embezzlement are examples of part two crimes.

While there are reductions in the number of burglaries and thefts, the chief said there are increases in other categories such as motor vehicle thefts and drunk driving cases.
