Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - There will be a road closure on Mendenhall Loop Road in July as crews work on a repaving project.

According to Sam Dapcevich at Alaska Department of Transportation, Mendenhall Loop Road will be closed between James Boulevard and Mendenhall Mall Road from 7 p.m. on Friday, July 15, to 5:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18.

The closure comes due to the replacement of a major fish passage. During this time, traffic will be directed to detour routes.

Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Secon, Inc., is working to resurface Mendenhall Loop Road from Egan Drive to Trinity Drive. Project work includes minor structural improvements, replacement of a fish culvert, ADA improvements, striping, and signage. This project is expected to be complete in late August.

Please drive carefully and follow all detour signs. Closure dates are weather permitting and subject to change.
