Company denies involvement in child's death

    Kodiak, Alaska (KINY) Granite Construction was suspected to be involved in a crash that involved a large rock falling off a construction truck and crashing through the window of a car.

    Noah Schweback, 8,of Eagle River died in the crash earlier this month on the Sterling Highway.

    The Peninsula Clarion reports the company claims they did not have any gravel trucks in the area and there company was not responsible for the accident.

    A volleyball size rock rolled off a southbound truck and struck the boy as he sat in the back seat of the Volkswagen hatchback.  Granite Construction has been contracted by the state to resurface 21 miles on the Kenai Peninsula.

    The company statement said they conducted an internal investigation, found that the truck did not match the witness description of the one involved and that there truck was miles away near a gravel pit at the time.

    Alaska State Troopers continue to investigate the incident.  They had tentatively identified the truck involved but did not release the name of the operator.
