Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau Animal Rescue said they've gotten a huge response from the public after that 70 cats had been placed in the shelter.

Executive Director Samantha Blankenship said they now have 43 cats at the shelter, 25 ready to adopt, 15
in foster homes, and nine adopted this week.

Blankenship said they won't be euthanizing any cats, "We aren't threatening to put any down.  We are at capacity and that is why we asked the community for help.  We haven't had to put cats down in a long time."

Blankenship said the rescue has done a great job getting many of these cats adopted

She noted it is always a good idea to have your animals spade and neutered.  She also asked the public to report problems they see in the community to animal control.
