Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - An injured man was rescued from a fish processor vessel near Dutch Harbor Thursday.

Watchstanders at the Juneau command center received the initial medevac request from the 262-foot fish processor vessel "America’s Finest" at about 2:30 in the morning Thursday.

The master reported a crew member had sustained serious injuries to his foot 20 miles west of St. George Island.

Personnel directed the launch of a helicopter crew while the vessel made way toward Dutch Harbor.

The helicopter crew hoisted the injured man from the vessel at 12:52 p.m.

The patient was flown to Dutch Harbor and placed in the care of LifeMed personnel.

Petty Officer First Class Jeffrey Dickey, a watchstander at the command center, said that thanks to the communication and continuous cooperation between America’s Finest, Alex Haley, command center personnel, and the aircrews, they were able to get this individual to a higher level of care.
