Coast guard crew sets record

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) The vessel is different but the crew is not.

The Coast Guard said the crew formerly assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Maple became one of the few crews to have circumnavigated North America.  The vessel, in need of renovations, traveled via the Northwest Passage to the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland and returned aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Kukui via the Panama Canal.

After a year-long overhaul, the cutter Kukui, previously homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii, takes the place of the cutter Maple in Sitka.
