Skwentna, Alaska (KINY) - On Tuesday, an Alaska Wildlife Trooper and an Iditarod volunteer rescued an 8-year-old child who fell into open water at the Skwentna River checkpoint.

According to a Trooper dispatch online, Wildlife Trooper Knier and a volunteer, Doug Ramsey of Wyoming, ran over to the scene and pulled the child out of the water.

The victim's 10-year-old sibling was there struggling to keep the victim from being pulled under the ice by the current.

Photos taken at the scene show the children walking away with a guardian after the incident.
