CDC maintains cruise ship no sail order until November, Travel Juneau responds

Travel Juneau President and CEO Liz Perry

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Centers for Disease Control has decided to keep its Conditional Sailing Order until November 1st of this year in place.

The order impacts vessels with more than 250 passengers.

The Cruise Line International Association had requested CDC to lift its order by the beginning of July to allow for the planning of a phased resumption of operations.

Liz Perry, the president and CEO of Travel Juneau, responded by saying it's disappointing news and it is another blow to Juneau tour businesses and operations that rely upon a certain volume of visitors  "So I think that's so much more important for us, and Travel Juneau especially, to work really hard to encourage independent travel into town this year and into the coming years as well since we don't have a clear path of what's coming down the pike for the CDC or the cruise industry."

The order impacts vessels with more than 250 passengers, so Perry says the small cruise ships planning to ply Southeast waters will still be able to operate.
