CBJ Deputy City Manager Robert Barr

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - City and Borough of Juneau Deputy City Manager Robert Barr explained that geologists are examining the landslide area on Tuesday.

On Monday, a landslide occurred in the area above 187 Gastineau Avenue at approximately 6:20 p.m.

Barr explained that geologists are studying the area Tuesday, saying, "What we're doing right now is we, in coordination with some geologists from the State of Alaska, are evaluating the slope and the existing debris for potential additional activity. After we clean up, AEL&P can finish restoring power. So that's that's the current activity."

Capital City Fire Rescue advised some residents evacuate the area. Some were assisted by Red Cross.
