CBJ's Barr discusses COVID-19 available vaccines, boosters to come

CBJ Deputy City Manager Robert Barr

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - CBJ Deputy City Manager Robert Barr appeared on the KINY Morning Show on Thursday to speak about COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.

During a discussion on the show, Barr began by providing an update on vaccinations in the borough.

"We're still vaccinating at Public Health with the vaccines that we have right now, which continue to be kind of the original type," Barr said. "Those continue to be effective at preventing severe disease and poor outcomes. We still continue to urge people to get their primary series if they haven't yet, and get boosters as well."

A series of boosters is set for release in the fall, Barr said.

"As far as the the new vaccine boosters go, we're still anticipating that those are going to be released sometime in September," Barr said. "Those are pending FDA and CDC meetings, but that seems to be the target date. We're anticipating that initially those will be available to people ages 12 and up, but we think there will be another release shortly thereafter, maybe a month or two later."
