Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - In a report from Emergency Programs Manager Tom Mattice, continued warming today and with precipitation that is often heavy at times, he expects to see continued natural avalanches today.
Wet loose slides have been observed around the region overnight during periods of intense snowfall.
Avalanche danger is High with natural avalanches likely and human-triggered avalanches more than likely.
Of note is the large volume of new snow in the last 8 days.
Juneau has over a meter of loose unconsolidated snow.
Although the danger is not Extreme today, Mattice says to please continue to use caution and avoid spending time in avalanche terrain, avoid the gated areas above the Behrends Path avoid the Flume Trail today.
Earlier in the season, there has been danger in the Behrends Path, but with continued snowfall the last few weeks all urban paths are now of concern.
