CBJ to open seasonal campground

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ will open the Mill Campground east of South Franklin Street on Tuesday.

The Mill Campground will replace the Thane campground.  It is much closer to town and easier to access.

There is no fee to camp at the facility but registration is required.

The CBJ said the goal is to provide a safe and clean seasonal camping facility.

It will be open through mid-October.

The new campground is located on the hillside between the Franklin Dock and Taku Smokeries.  It will include 20 tent platforms, bathrooms, handwashing stations, portable water, 20 lockable personal storage cabinets, picnic tables, and other amenities.

The Parks & Recreation Department will manage and maintain the site with help from the CBJ Housing & Homelessness staff and the Juneau Police Department.
