Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The City and Borough of Juneau has provided an update about the status of guests and crew of a cruise docked in Juneau.
After a guest onboard an UnCruise Adventures ship received notification of a positive COVID-19 test result Tuesday, the Wilderness Adventurer returned early to Juneau on Wednesday morning. All guests and crew members have since been quarantining, and have tested for COVID-19.
The 36 passengers were transported to a local Juneau hotel Wednesday morning to quarantine, and meals are being provided there. Thirty crewmembers are quarantining on the vessel in Juneau. Security is on-site at both the vessel and the hotel to ensure quarantine rules are followed (they cannot leave their quarantine location, visit any public place, or allow visitors).
The Vice President of Operations for UnCruise is also staying at the hotel as a contact for the guests if any issues or questions arise.
The guest who tested positive, along with members of their travel group, were tested while still onboard the vessel; all other guests were tested for COVID-19 this morning using kits provided by UnCruise.
The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center tested all crew members this afternoon. Follow-up tests will take place in the next few days.
UnCruise continues to work under the direction of the State of Alaska on the next steps. Public Health officials initiated a contact investigation on Tuesday, immediately after the guest received the positive notification.
The risk of potential exposure within the community appears to be minimal.
