CBJ proposes budget

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The fiscal year 2019 budget totals $338.3 million.

    The budget would raise 3.2 percent more in property taxes, or $1.5 million.  Sales tax revenues rose $550,000 to $46.6 million, or 1.2%.  State support is down $4.25 million, or 6.12%.  The federal support decreased $100,000 or 1.37%.

    An ordinance was introduced to establish the millage rate at last year's rate of 10.66 mills.  The ordinance also includes $85.8 million for the Juneau School District. 

    City Manager Rorie Watt said we have a good budget, a good process, and elected officials who labor a large amount of time on the budget.  "We should be proud of that.  The budget is very accessible.  I urge anyone to reach out and get details and study the budget."

    The spending plan included $4.28 million for Capital City Fire, $4.5 million for Capital City Rescue, $6.86 million for Capital Transit, $15.2 million for police and $5.36 million for the streets department.  Juneau International Airport is funded at $7.43 million, Bartlett Regional Hospital at $101 million, wastewater at $11.27 million, docks at $3.4 million and $3.99 million for harbors.
