CBJ mandates hunker down order

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - After several amendments, the CBJ Assembly approved a resolution to order residents to hunker down and ordered the closure of several non-essential businesses.

The Assembly did include a number of exemptions for critical businesses so they can remain open.

These businesses must comply with social distancing requirements.

The exceptions included industries like health care, shipping, home repair, and construction.

The state also approved a hunker down order and travel restrictions.

No gathering of 10 or more people will be allowed.

Juneau had its first reported case of the coronavirus on Sunday.  Officials reported the patient was self-quarantined at home.

Mayor Beth Weldon said they want to keep people away from each other.  "We've gone away from encouraging to requiring people to stay away from each other."
