CBJ manager outlines impetus for extending COVID mitigation measures

A masked up CBJ Manager Rorie Watt

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - City and Borough of Juneau Manager Rorie Watt talked about the Assembly's decision this week to extend COVID-19 mitigation measures while a guest on Action Line.

"Let's talk about the why.  Why are we doing this?  We want to keep the schools open.  We want to keep the hospital available for the public.  We don't want to have more restrictive COVID measures.  We want to keep businesses open."

Right now Watt said Alaska leads the nation.  "We're number one in COVID cases and Juneau's numbers, while we're a little bit better than the rest of the state, our numbers our terrible.  They're the worse they've been in a long time."

Watt said probably the biggest thing that's saving Juneau  is its community vaccination rate. He thinks the other thing making a big difference is masking.
