CBJ gets $5 million for electric buses

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Capital Transit today announced it had received $5 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration.

The funding will go toward the purchase of new electric buses and associated charging stations.

The first electric bus ordered by the CBJ is scheduled to arrive in October. They plan to replace seven aging diesel buses in 2022.

The money comes from the low or no emission grant program. It provided funding to 41 projects in 40 states.

Capital Transit currently has three electric cars in the fleet that were also purchased through grant funding.
