CBJ closes down bars, limits restaurants in COVID-19 shutdown

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The City and Borough of Juneau is closing down bars and limiting restaurants due to COVID-19.

Due to increased case positivity, the CBJ is raising the overall community risk to "Level 3 High" with a partial implementation of the Community Mitigation Strategies.

Effective Saturday, Sept. 12, at noon, the “Bars and Restaurants” category of the Community Mitigation Strategies is in effect.

By the Emergency Public Health Order, as of noon, bars are required to close for indoor service, and restaurants must reduce indoor capacity to 50% of normal and require reservations.

Delivery and curbside pickup is encouraged.

According to the city, the community is currently experiencing heightened case activity resulting in part from exposure in bars.

The city says case activity has pushed both the 7- and 14-day case rates into the high alert category.
