CBJ Assembly meets

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Assembly approves bids for buses and clears the way for round-a-bouts in the Mendenhall Valley.

    The Assembly introduced an ordinance to purchase new electric buses for Capital Transit.  The Alaska Department of Transportation will provide a grant of $1.35 million.  The local match is $ $233,735.  The funds will also purchase new charging equipment.

    The Assembly approved a bid for zinc anodes to be placed on each steel piling in Douglas Harbor.  The work will extend the life span of the pilings.  The low bidder was Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. for $148,108.

    The Assembly also approved the conveyance of easements needed for the Alaska Department of Transportation to improve Glacier Highway from Vanderbilt Road towards the old Walmart property, and to improve Mendenhall Loop Road near Floyd Dryden Middle School and Stephens Richards Memorial Drive.  The DOT has said it wants to start construction this summer.
