Cash register stolen at gunpoint from Togiak convenience store, suspect in custody

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A suspected armed robber was arrested in the Western Alaska village of Togiak, according to a dispatch filed Thursday by Alaska State Troopers

It says Happy's convenience store was robbed Tuesday by a man who had a rifle and pointed at the clerk.  The suspect took the cash register and fled.   In the process, he dropped the rifle which was recovered by the Village Police Officer and discovered to be a pellet gun.

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Christopher Wade Chuckwuk who was wanted on a warrant for a parole violation.  Arriving Troopers from Bethel and King Salmon were unable to find him and were told that he fled the village on a snow machine.

The suspect was located at about midday Wednesday in Togiak and transported to Dillingham where he was jailed on charges of robbery in the first and second degrees, theft in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the fifth degree.
