Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Dr. Karen Carey talked about her appointment announced last week to become the permanent chancellor for the University of Alaska Southeast while a guest on Action Line.
She was asked to what she attributed her appointment to the post. "I think that President Pitney really wants stability across the system. You know we had so much upheaval over the last several years that she really wants to make sure that every campus is stable and appointing me as chancellor provides for that particularly as we get into the legislative session and moving forward."
Dr. Carey said she was very surprised to be named chancellor. She thought a search would be conducted and a new chancellor named next fall. Dr. Carey said she was pleased and added that she wants to make sure that UAS remains strong for many years to come.
Dr. Carey said a top goal for her is to grow the school's enrollment through improved marketing.
Dr. Carey was initially named acting chancellor following the retirement of Rick Caulfield.
