Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - UA Interim President Pat Pitney removed the interim before Karen Carey's title during a virtual town hall with UAS staff, faculty, students, and community members on Wednesday.
Carey replaces Rick Caulfield who retired in June.
Pitney said she felt Carey was the right person at the right time, "I've worked with Karen for several months now and know that she is the right choice to lead UAS."
Carey had served as provost at UAS since 2016.
She came to Juneau from Ventura, California where she had served as Dean of Arts & Sciences for the California State University Channel Islands.
Carey said she was excited to continue to serve UAS, "I am thrilled to have been asked to serve as the Chancellor at the University of Alaska Southeast. UAS is a great University. We have fantastic students, staff, and faculty and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them and our communities."
