
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - CCFR responded to a structure fire on Engineers Cutoff Rd. on Thursday, Mar. 30.
Update 03/31/2023 1:20 p.m.:
On Thursday, Mar. 30 at approximately 1:53 PM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire on the 2800 block of Engineers Cut-Off Road.
While en route, dispatch advised there was someone still inside the home.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-story log cabin home with smoke visible from the back of the home.
Fire personnel found a male victim inside the home and immediately brought him outside where additional personnel began life-saving efforts for the unconscious male who ended up being declared deceased at the scene.
According to JPD's press release, the deceased male has been identified as a 51-year-old Juneau resident, and the next of kin has been notified.
The fire marshal and Juneau Police Department conducted a combined fire origin & cause investigation due to the fire resulting in a fatality.
The investigation revealed that the fire had occurred on the first floor in the kitchen area.
The actual cause for this fire is still undetermined at this time. Smoke alarms were present and operational.
Damage is estimated at approximately $1000,000. There were no other reported injuries.
CCFR would like to offer their most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Fire Chief Rich Etheridge released the current information regarding the fire.
"At approximately 1:50 this afternoon Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at Engineers Cut-off Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered one victim inside the building. CPR was immediately performed on the victim but unfortunately, they were pronounced dead at the scene," he said. "The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Juneau Police Department and our fire marshal. Further investigation regarding this incident will be released as it becomes available."
