Capital City Fire Rescue releases information on Monday's structure fire

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - On Monday, May 8 at approximately 8:11 p.m., Capital City Fire Rescue (CCFR) was dispatched to a residential structure fire on the 3400 block of Meander Way in the Mendenhall Valley.

    Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-story residence with heavy fire on the exterior wall and fire and heavy smoke inside of the structure.

    A fire origin and cause investigation began immediately during fire suppression activity.

    The investigation is being conducted by the fire marshal and Juneau Police Department.

    The investigation has revealed that the fire had started on the exterior of the structure.

    The home was occupied at the time of the fire and all occupants were able to safely evacuate.

    The exact cause for the fire is undetermined at this time.

    Damage is estimated at approximately $175,000.

    The home is insured and there were no civilian injuries reported however, one cat did perish.
