Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The assembly recently opened a campground close to town to better serve the homeless population.
The assembly introduced an ordinance to authorize the city manager to execute a lease agreement with AJT Mining Properties, Inc. for a campground near downtown Juneau.
The CBJ intends to lease the Mill Campground for 180 days. It is a replacement for the Thane Campground.
CBJ officials said the facility will be much easier to access for emergency workers and social service agencies trying to provide services to the homeless.

The assembly awarded a $4.24 million bid to Trucano Construction Company to continue the expansion of Statter Harbor phase III. The project will install approximately 850 linear feet of moorage floats, a new retaining wall, and a gangway at Statter Harbor. It will create dedicated for-hire charter vessel floats to mitigate congestion at the facility.
