Calhoun Ave reconstruction okayed by Planning Commission, with conditions

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Planning Commission took two actions during its meeting Tuesday evening.

Commission Chair Mike LaVine says the commission recommended that the Assembly approve the reconstruction project for Calhoun Avenue.  He says the recommendation includes a condition that a series of traffic calmings and other measures recommended by the design engineers are implemented in the project.

What won't be considered though is making the roadway one way.  The Assembly directed engineering and the commission not to consider a one-way option.

LaVine says the panel also approved a revised conditional use permit for the arts campus being built by the Sealaska Heritage Institute downtown.  He says the revision is based on new information since the panel approved the original permit.  It now allows for one entrance and one exit from the parking lot.
