Burn ban in place

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The use of burn barrels, the burning of debris piles, and any other outdoor burning activity under previously issued burn permits will be prohibited in Juneau starting May 1.

It meets the requirement of a State of Alaska Division of Forestry statewide suspension.

The move was made in response to the expected impacts on wildland firefighting resources this summer from COVID-19.

The statewide burn permit suspension will not include cooking, warming, or signaling fires that are less than three feet in diameter with flame lengths no more than two feet high.

Any person or business that violates the suspension order may be issued a citation to pay a fine or be required to appear in court.

The state anticipates a lack of firefighters resources from the Lower 48.
