Bear shot in car

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) A state ranger shot a bear at a trail head after it stole a cooler.

KTUU News reported that Chief Ranger Ben Corwin shot the bear early Friday at Glen Alps trailhead in south Anchorage.  He was on regular patrol when he spotted a crowd taking photos of the bear in the parking lot.

The bear apparently broke out a window to the Subaru Forester and ran off with a soft cooler.  Corwin received permission to shoot the bear from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Corwin said bears often lose fear of humans when they go to campgrounds and receive food handouts.
