Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Thane Road is scheduled to be closed from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 15 for avalanche hazard mitigation work, weather permitting. If debris reaches the road, the closure may be extended.
Sam Dapcevich, with the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, said the closure, unfortunately, has the be at the time that most people are driving home from work. He said it is the optimal time to attempt to clear avalanches because it is the warmest part of the day.
Dapcevich recommends people who live on Thane Road to get out of work early, if they can, or make other arrangements for the evening. He said there is a chance they might be done before 6 p.m., but also past 6 p.m.
