Aurora crew to be out of work

    The M/V Aurora.

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Alaska Marine Highway System notified employees on the M/V Aurora that they will be relieved of service effective Jan. 14.

24 employees will be impacted by the move.

In November, after thorough inspections of the 45-year-old M/V Leconte and the 43-year-old Aurora, the AMHS decided to move forward with repairs for the LeConte.  The required work was more than the AMHS had budgeted.  They did not have the funds available to repair both vessels.

The LeConte is expected back in service May 15 after the steel repairs are completed.

The Aurora will be placed in long-term layup at Ward Cove in Ketchikan.
