Assembly Finance moves ahead with expanded Centennial Hall study

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Assembly Finance Committee agreed at last night's meeting to spend $75,000 for the design of an expanded Centennial Hall that would incorporate a performing arts element.

Mayor Beth Weldon justified the expenditure in this fashion. "In order for us to even consider this we need to spend money on the study to see what it is we're considering.

Public Works and Facilities Committee Chair Michelle Bonnet Hale chimed in by saying the project can't be funded from the CBJ treasury and that they need to explore other potential funding possibilities.  She said, " So it's certainly in my mind worth our while spending a little more time understanding this better than we do now."

Voters turned down the idea of funding a stand-alone performing arts center.
