Assault in Ketchikan leads to Medevac and First Degree Charges

    Juneau, AK (KINY) - Minors were involved in an assault case that occurred on Sunday in Ketchikan.

    According to a press release from Ketchikan Police, they responded to the Emergency Room for an assault victim with severe enough injuries that they had to be medevaced to Seattle.

    Officers responded to a trailer in the 800 block of Buren Street, where witnesses identified a suspect, but had said left the scene. Investigation continued over the next few days. Family members eventually came forward with text messages from a 17-year-old male, who had been identified as the suspect and who had been interviewed at the trailer previously.

    On Wednesday, Officers served a search warrant on the trailer. The 17-year-old male confessed to assaulting the victim. Officers also contacted two 17-year-old females, who admitted to lying to officers during the initial investigation.

    The male was charged with Assault in the First Degree, Tampering with Evidence, and False Information. He was sent to the State Jail and held without bail.

    The two females were charged with Hindering Prosecution and False Information. Both were released to their guardians and the case was sent to Juvenile Probation.
