Arrest made in connection with New Year's Day murder in Emmonak

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska State Troopers are investigating a New Year's Day murder in the western Alaska village of Emmonak.

    Troopers received the report of a deceased man at about 3:30 that morning.   They found 39-year old Brian Agwiak dead at this residence.

    Investigation revealed that  27-year-old Rudolf Waska of Emmonak allegedly assaulted Agwiak until he was unconscious and then continued to assault him further.  Troopers say the victim died a short time after the assault.  

    Results from the State Medical Examiner are still pending.  Waska was arrested and arraigned on charges of murder in the second degree and assault in the first degree.  He's being held on a $100,000 cash performance bail.
