Alcohol related crash injures child

Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska State Troopers charged Devin Saxton, 34, of Ketchikan, with DUI and endangering the welfare of a child Tuesday night after a single-vehicle rollover crash near mile marker 13 of the North Tongass Highway.

Troopers said Saxton was driving southbound when he swerved to avoid deer in the roadway.  The vehicle went into the oncoming lane of travel, lost control, drove into a ditch, and overturned at least once.

The North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department responded to provide medical care and traffic control.

Saxton and an 11-year-old child suffered minor injuries.

Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The vehicle was ruled a total loss.

Saxton was remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center to await a court appearance.
