Alaska's Senators take to floor to remember Congressman Don Young

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska Congressman Don Young was remembered during floor comments from Alaska's U. S. Senators in the wake of his death last Friday.

Alaska Senior Senator Lisa Murkowski said she was there with a heavy heart.  She said Young accomplished an incredible amount across the many decades that he served Alaska and served his country. "But that doesn't make the loss any less sudden or any less devastating and it doesn't change the fact that we are now left with a hole the size of Alaska in our congressional delegation."

Alaska Junior Senator Dan Sullivan's floor comments followed Senator Murkowski's.  "I want to rise today to recognize a giant, a larger than life man, certainly a legend in our state and certainly a legend in the House of Representatives, Congressman for all Alaska, Donald Edwin Young."

Senator Sullivan referred to Young as "Alaska's North Star."

Young will lie in state in National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol on Tuesday, March 29.

A formal ceremony will be held that morning with the Young family, which will be open to invited guests.

Following the memorial service, there will be viewing open to Members of Congress.

Additional details will be announced at a later date.
