Alaska village without power

Bethel, Alaska (KINY) Despite freezing temperatures an Alaska power company decided to shut off power to a remote village for three days.

The village of Newtok had power back on Sunday.  The community power company shut off the electricity Thursday for maintenance.  To compensate, many of the village residents slept in the community school to keep warm.  Others with personal generators or wood stoves stayed at home.  Many brought food to the school to assist the residents.

Newtok was without power for five days last winter when a generator broke down.
