Alaska State Troopers investigate homicide in Mountain Village

    Mountain Village, Alaska (KINY) - Friday afternoon, Tribal Police Officers in Mountain Village contacted Alaska State Troopers to report a homicide had occurred at a residence in Mountain Village and a suspect was in custody.

    Troopers from St. Mary’s post and the Western Major Crimes Unit responded to Mountain Village.

    The investigation discovered 35-year-old Larry Andrews of St. Mary’s deceased with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

    Further investigation led to the arrest of 34-year-old Darren Peterson of Mountain Village.

    On Saturday, Peterson was arraigned in Bethel on charges of Murder 1, Murder 2, Misconduct Involving Weapons 3, Misconduct Involving Weapons 4, and Assault 3.

    Alcohol is believed to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing. The next of kin for Andrews has been notified.

    Mountain Village is a city in Kusilvak Census Area, Alaska, located on the Yukon River near the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, with a population of roughly 813.
