Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - This year is the 100th anniversary of the League of Women Voters and ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution which afforded women the right to vote

Judy Andree, president of Alaska State Chapter, and Karen Crane, president of the league's Juneau Chapter, were asked on Action Line for their reflections on the anniversary.

Crane said, "We've done a lot, but there's still a long way to go, unfortunately."

Andree cited passage of the Equal Rights Amendment in particular. She said there are now a sufficient number of states ratifying the amendment, so it's important to get  deadline of March 22, 1979,  removed

They say there is a movement in Congress to remove the deadline.  Alaska Senior U. S. Senator Lisa Murkowski is supportive they say and they are now working to gain the support of Alaska's junior senator, Dan Sullivan.
