Alaska joins lawsuit over mask requirement on public transportation

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The State of Alaska is joining a coalition of states in a lawsuit over the mask mandate on public transportation.

The lawsuit challenges the mandate imposed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a press release issued by the Department of Law, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy is quoted as saying that the state will continue to fight for the rights of its citizens.  Although certain precautions may have been necessary early on, the Governor claims the science shows they are no longer needed.

According to the Governor,  Alaskans should be allowed to decide for themselves how to best protect their health.

The lawsuit argues that the CDC does not have the authority to introduce or enforce the mandate.  The release cites the lack of congressional authorization and public notice and comment.
