Alaska honors nurses during pandemic

    Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy.

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Gov. Mike Dunleavy signed a proclamation that states May 6-12 is Nurses Week in Alaska.

"Never in our state’s history have our incredible and heroic nurses been more vital than they are today," Dunleavy added.

The proclamation states nurses are a critical part of health care in Alaska and the men and women who choose this field of work are devoted, professional and expertly trained.

"They bring compassion, understanding, and comfort to patients while using their medical knowledge and clinical skills to deliver high-quality care," the proclamation read.

The 2020 theme for Nurses Week is "Compassion, Expertise, and Trust."

Dunleavy said he encourages all Alaskans to honor and recognize the value and importance of nurses.

"I hope Alaskans will join me in thanking these selfless men and women who are on the frontlines serving, healing, and helping those most in need," he added.
