28 COVID deaths reported in Alaska in last week, 77 hospitalized

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The latest information from the Alaska Department of Health and Social says 550 new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday and Tuesday.

    The death toll over the last week amounts to 28.   Most of the deaths came in Southcentral Alaska with nine each reported in Anchorage and the Mat Su Borough and 5 in the Kenai Peninsula.  There were on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska.  For the most part, their ages were in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, although there was an Anchorage man in his 50s and another man from there in his 20s.

    The death toll included nine women and 19 men.

    There are 77 hospitalizations with six on ventilators.

    The department says the statewide alert level remains high.
