Zip ties reported used in Alaska assault

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) A Delta man was charged with trying to strangle a female by using zip ties.

Court records showed Russell Sandlin, 55, pled guilty to a charge of felony assault and was sentenced to three years behind bars on November 21.

A dispatch from Alaska State Troopers dated May 7th, stated Mr. Sandlin lured the victim away from others, placed a zip tie around her neck and demanded that she date him.  They went on to report that Mr. Sandlin repeatedly asked her questions about her love life, and demanded that she talk to him.

The victim was eventually taken to a shed and the zip ties placed around her neck.  Mr. Sandlin allegedly tightened the zip tie if she didn't give him the answers he wanted to hear.  He eventually let the victim go after she promised not to tell anyone.  She told a friend and that friend notified Troopers.

Channel 11 news in Fairbanks first reported the story.
