Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The valiant efforts of neighbors and firemen were unable to save the woman.

Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire on Dogwood Lane at 6:30 pm Monday.  Fire crews said multiple neighbors had entered the smoky home prior to the arrival of firemen to rescue the woman.

The neighbors started CPR and Capital City Fire Rescue said the woman did regain a pulse.  She was rushed to Bartlett Regional Hospital but went into cardiac arrest and succumbed to her injuries.

Assistant Fire Chief Travis Mead said crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.

The name of the woman was not immediately released so family members can be notified.  The Capital City Fire Marshall will determine the cause of the blaze.
