Unions to oppose cuts to ferry system

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) -Union representatives plan to rally in the capital to oppose job losses proposed by Gov. Mike Dunleavy.

The proposed budget cuts the Marine Highway System by $97 million, about 75 percent of its budget.

The Governor is trying to close a near $1.6 billion budget shortfall.

The Juneau Empire said the budget cuts could result in the loss of 253 in the ferry system.  The system is not taking reservations after October 1st.
