Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska State Troopers have released the results of their enhanced holiday enforcement push.
The focused enforcement by the Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers through the holiday is over now -- and troopers have released the results of their enhanced watch for drunk drivers and those under the influence.
The enforcement period was intended to prevent major injury and fatality crashes through enhanced checks. While the troopers were out to curb DUIs, they were also on the lookout for additional driver behaviors that often contribute to fatal crashes, such as speeding and driving too fast for conditions.
In all there were 39 misdemeanor DUI arrests, though no felony DUI arrests were reported. A total of 13 drivers were charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. There were 212 damage-only crashes, 18 injury crashes, and two fatal collisions that were investigated by troopers.
Of the 754 citations issued, 253 were issued for speeding and 12 issued for seat belt or other occupant restraint violations.
