Senate passes resolution in support of deep draft Nome port

    An engineering rendering from 2017 shows what a deep draft port in Nome might look like.

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - House Joint Resolution 14 passed the Senate on 19-0 vote Saturday morning.

    The resolution expresses support for the development of a deep draft port in Nome. Rep. Neal Foster of Nome was the main sponsor in the House.

    Golovin Sen. Donny Olson carried the bill in the Senate.

    The resolution asks the Alaska Department of Transportation to send a letter in favor of the port to Alaska's Congressional delegation.

    It also asks for ADOT's technical experience in developing the port. The resolution asks the delegation to seek infrastructure-related funding for the project.
