School district funding projected to fall by over $3 Million for next year

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau School District kicked off its budget work for next year with two presentations this week.

Superintendent Mark Miller described the situation as "rough" while a guest on  Action Line Thursday.  He said that's because they're looking at spending between 3 and 3 point 5 million dollars less next year. The budget for this year amounted to $67.6 Million.  That number is projected to fall to $64.1 Million next year.

Miller said in past years they could tap their fund balance to make up for reductions, but that's been chewed up since the last couple of years have been so lean.
