School board president predicts 'chaos" if the state doesn't come through with expected funding

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Legislative Council has been authorized to go to court over the constitutionality of forward funding of education which has occurred in the past with no challenge.

Juneau School Board President Brian Holst was asked about that debate while a guest on Action Line.  While admitting he's not a constitutional expert, it seems to him that since the Legislature is endowed with the power of appropriation it can choose to forward fund education which it has done in the past.

At this point, Holst he's not sure what they would do at this point if informed the district will not have the budget it thought it had.  Holst said it would be "chaos".  He hopes that doesn't happen and doesn't think it will.
